Abstract:
The article discusses the methods and techniques of teaching foreign students of the faculty of the Russian language and general educational disciplines (RUDN University) the formulae of speech etiquette in Russian linguistic culture. The authors introduce the analysis of the tasks based on the teaching material developed for Chinese-speaking students.

Speech etiquette in general, and business etiquette, in particular, are understood as the totality of all etiquette speech tools and the rules for their use in various situations. Speech etiquette is also defined as nationally specific rules of speech behavior used by interlocutors to establish and maintain communication in a specific situation. The study of the similarities and differences of speech etiquette has always been a current issue in linguistics, since knowledge of etiquette helps to establish communication contact between participants in a speech situation and to avoid mistakes. Errors in the formulae of speech etiquette are primarily caused by the differences in the etiquette formulae of Russian and Chinese linguistic cultures.

The purpose of this article is to describe the main features of the similarity and differences of etiquette formulae in Russian and Chinese linguistic cultures based on address and greetings. The paper describes in detail exercises for developing skills in using etiquette formulae that are of significant importance for a successful speech act.

The formulae of speech etiquette reflect the characteristics of the culture and history of a country and its people. When comparing language means in expressing compliments, greetings, and address in Chinese and Russian, it is necessary to pay particular attention to the fact that speech etiquette formulae in Chinese linguistic culture are strictly codified. For a successful communication, we should keep in mind dos and don’ts both in Chinese and Russian linguistic cultures.

Knowledge of the rules of speech etiquette and their skillful application contribute to the contact establishment and successful solution to a communicative problem.
