Abstract:
Modern digitalization processes result in new trends in education and define the global learning environment.

Virtual learning environment is an innovative phenomenon, which explains the interest in its limitless capabilities, including the expansion of the information field. It represents a valuable didactic resource that shapes students’ linguistic competence. Informatization is one of the key components of methodological development.

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing the system of education at a high speed, which emphasizes the significance and integrating role of new methods in education and their specifics as a system of norms and values.

Systematic analysis of such processes is described in the current research. It is focused on methods applicable to teaching Russian as a foreign language at RUDN University.

All learning components are researched in their systematic relations with the teaching model and with each other. Such an approach shapes the vertical system that encompasses the entire Russian language course for international students.

The authors argue that the limitations imposed on academic mobility due to COVID-19 pandemic pose serious challenges, which motivates educators to seek the ways of solving urgent foreign language training related issues caused by the global crisis.

In addition to learning a foreign language, international students interact with the language environment. The authors argue that creating language environment is essential in maintaining high standards of education. This motivates students to use their knowledge and skills obtained during the classes.

The authors present a multidimensional model of language environment that might be used when teaching Russian as a foreign language under travel restrictions which prevent students from visiting Russian-speaking countries. They also analyze various compensatory practices that help to overcome the absence of language environment and discuss the main issues of didactic creation.
