Abstract:
The development of digital technologies opens up many opportunities in different areas of life, including education. The coronavirus pandemic in 2020 caused the need for a sharp and one-step transition to remote forms of education and e-learning around the world. This fact was reflected in numerous discussions about the pros and cons of digitalization in this area.

Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, psychologists carried out a lot of research on attitudes towards digital educational technologies (DET). However, in Russian psychology to date, there are practically no studies on the relationship between personality traits and attitudes towards DET.

Based on our previous research on personality traits as academic achievements factors in university students, we hypothesized that the Five-Factor Model (FFM) personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness) might be related to attitudes towards DET.

The purpose of present research is to reveal relation between FFM personality traits and attitudes towards DET in Russian university students.

The sample includes 173 (61% - female) Russian university students from different field of study. The FFM personality traits were measured with the Russian NEO Five-Factor Inventory adaptation by S. Biryukov and M. Bodunov. To diagnose attitudes towards DET, the author's questionnaire was used, which successfully passed a psychometric testing. The descriptive statistics methods, coefficients Cronbach’ α and McDonald's ω, and the Spearman’s correlation analysis were used for statistical analysis. Statistical processing was carried out in the R software environment for statistical computing and graphics, version 3.6.1., psych package version 1.9.6.

Findings of our research showed that extraversion and openness to experience from FFM personality traits are most closely related to attitudes towards DET in Russian university students. However, there is a specificity of these relations in students from different field of study.

The obtained data must be taken into account when DET are included in the educational programs for students of different fields of study, based their personality characteristics.
