Abstract:
The media are increasingly using podcasts as a means of distributing information and complete content to their recipients. Therefore, it is essential that journalism students thoroughly know this genre, perceive its specifics, and adequately use its potential in their future journalistic or media activities. The paper should serve as a theoretical basis for future journalists to know the podcast from several perspectives. Either as a form of (self)presentation of the podcaster, which may be a form of citizen journalism, or as a product of media, journalistic activity. Podcasts have undergone some development. We perceive their history from at least two perspectives: firstly, as a genre of civic journalism, which evolved from blogs and, in addition to visualization, found its connection with sound; secondly, as a genre of radio journalism, which began to be used by traditional media such as print or television, online media, and their newsrooms. Then we consider podcasts as part of editorial content. Let us name the podcast as a new genre that combines elements of traditional and modern journalism. Convergent translation of published information occurs, for example, when transcripts of podcasts are published or distributed in the form of newsletters requested by recipients. Online media often use this method, which may or may not have their traditional print version. Another form of convergence is the making available of radio and television programs in the form of podcasts.

Regarding the interconnection with the press, radio, and television, within these media, we identify not only trends of convergence but also genre syncretism. Although, in the paper, we name what genre interconnection is, we focus on genre dominants. Podcasts can internally use various genres, which we can primarily identify in the intentions of the already mentioned traditional media. Finally, the significant potential of podcasts needs to be re-emphasized, especially in terms of making content available across different media platforms.
