Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate and ascertain the factors influencing teachers’ use of ICT in teaching. A widely used Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) was applied to determine the factors. TPB explains that behaviour is influenced by intention, and intention is influenced by three direct factors, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behaviour control. Indicator variables were employed to measure the latent variables.
Data for the study were collected using survey questionnaire from 279 secondary teachers of 30 government schools in Bhutan. This research employed quantitative survey research design which is commonly used in research on ICT and computer use. Survey research design is one of the most important areas of measurement in applied social research. A questionnaire is administered to obtain participants’ respondents to the variables under investigation. A structured ICT in Education (ICTE) questionnaire was used as an instrument for this study. The reliability of the questionnaire was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient value, which was .95 in pilot study that shows it is highly reliable for the purpose of the study. Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient value more than .7 is reliable.
The data collected was analysed using statistical tool, IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 and IBM SPSS AMOS version 21.0. The descriptive analyses, factor analysis, inferential analysis, and multiple regressions and structural equation model (SEM) were employed for analysing the result for this study.
The study established positive relationship between the latent variables of the model showing teachers use of ICT in teaching is predicted by intention and perceived behaviour control, and attitude to use ICT and perceived behaviour control were stronger predictor of intention whereas subjective norm as weaker predictor.
