Abstract:
The paper presents the use of visualization of mathematical concepts in the teaching of mathematics at elementary schools. A questionnaire survey was conducted among teachers and pupils in Brno elementary schools (6th to 9th grade; pupils aged between 11 and 15) in the school year 2016/2017. Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. The investigation consisted of two parts.

The first part was focused on mathematics teachers. The survey was attended by 72 teachers from 42 elementary schools. The aim was to identify the use of ICT and relevant software tools to visualize mathematical concepts in mathematics teaching at elementary schools.

The second part of the survey was aimed at the pupils of participating schools. The aim was to identify parts of the mathematics curriculum which causes the biggest problems for pupils.

The information obtained will serve not only didactics and teachers preparing the future math teacher at the university which parts of the mathematics curriculum should focus in mathematics teaching, but also to what animation and visualization is needed to prepare to support teaching mathematics at elementary school.
