Abstract:
Appropriating scientific culture means not only understanding what science is, its concepts, its method and the social function of scientific education but also exercising citizenship based on this knowledge. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to incorporate previously excluded audiences became urgent and possible with the ongoing digital revolution. Evolution is the diversification process of life that introduces predictability and provides the structure of the biological knowledge, transforming K-12 memorization-based biology into science. One may picture a dynamic evolutionary movie that began in the origin of life and is the collection of all instantaneous photographs that we name biology, including changes in all generations, species, characteristics and processes. In this sense, evolution is not part of biology; it is biology. This article presents the cocreative processes of conceptualization, contextualization and scientific appropriation for the occupation of a physical space in the education area of Sesc - Social Service of Commerce, in the State of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, a social institution in the areas of education, culture, health and leisure. Sesc RJ website: www.sescrio.org.br/. The proposal for the Open Sky Science Park provides for a permanent exhibition collection to integrate traditional concepts and cutting-edge technology to address evolutionary issues. It will be mediated by artistic languages and technology, with their interactive and immersive narratives that, in themselves, are also configured as a theme. These narratives, particularly augmented reality, provide open spaces for innovative creative learning processes, that promote reflection on the achievements and thinking of science and for sociocultural intervention. A nonformal education project that deals with evolutionary biology also has an innovative character, based on the assumption that the sciences should be commented on by society rather than disseminated. Evolutionary biology suggests connectivity, interdependence and diversity, concepts beyond its scope, allowing a fusion between science and humanities. Nevertheless, the need to promote and expand discussions in evolutionary biology beyond formal education, with information that expands the understanding of science and its relations with other knowledge.
