Abstract:
Problem solving is a key skill for each human being, especially needed by young individuals who are just starting to develop their abilities. In this article we present the usage of digital content that includes cultural-historical heritage objects, as a means to encourage the interest, understanding and development of children of early age. We start by describing the problems and challenges, which young children face in the learning process, and how rich digital content can help in their solution. Because it is very important to involve children and young people in the values of cultural heritage, we use such content to raise awareness and form a desire to participate in its preservation and cultivate a sense of belonging to the values of the common European heritage. Additionally, access to cultural heritage is not always possible and adequately ensured for preschool children but yet it is a key element for building a national identity and patriotism. We also go over the specifications and functionalities of applications with digital cultural-historic content for kids, and provide a classification of application types, useful for children’s learning and development. Finally, we present an example application which aims to promote interest and increase learning abilities of children by using content from the context of cultural and historical heritage.
