Abstract:
Nowadays there are a lot of means to present content and to be educated - computers, tablets, even phones can be a way to learn - that make the learning process easy and entertaining. However preschool children find it difficult to have the patience to spend time on learning something that is more prolonged in time than their attention span could handle. The solution to this problem is to make stories that are both short enough and easy to understand - therefore making the learning fast, easy and appealing, but also including actively the children in the process. The stories are universal because they go beyond the cultural, language or age differences and storytelling is an easy way to share and interpret experiences. Storytelling can be adapted to be adequate for every age, so there is no age segregation in storytelling. Moreover storytelling of stories with cultural-historic content can be used to teach ethics, values and cultural norms. It can help preschoolers to absorb the educational content, which makes it easier later, when the history is taught by only stating facts, dates and places, which makes it difficult and unappealing. Storytelling to preschoolers includes stories about places with historical significance, monuments, heroes, etc. The end goals of storytelling to this age group include the overall development of a moral system, understanding of the history and the diversity of the cultural-historic traditions and last but not least developing the children's skills to master and apply specific techniques of historical knowledge.
