Abstract:
The field of nursing holds immense significance as a university degree, offering numerous advantages and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Nursing, as a discipline, equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and compassion necessary to provide quality healthcare and make a positive impact on people's lives. As a nurse, one becomes an integral part of a healthcare team, working collaboratively with doctors, therapists, and other medical professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care. A nursing degree provides a solid foundation in medical science, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, enabling nurses to understand the intricacies of the human body and its ailments. Additionally, nursing education emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills, and essential attributes for delivering safe and efficient care. One of the key aspects of nursing is its holistic approach to patient care. Nurses not only focus on treating physical ailments but also address patients' emotional and psychological well-being. This comprehensive approach helps build trust and rapport with patients, enabling nurses to provide compassionate care and support during challenging times. Furthermore, nursing offers diverse career opportunities. Nurses can specialize in various areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics, critical care, community health, or mental health, tailoring their careers to align with their interests and passions. The demand for qualified nurses continues to grow, providing job security and opportunities for advancement within the healthcare industry. In this research, the teaching guides of the 37 subjects of the nursing degree were examined and the 10 generic competencies of the University of Almeria were analyzed: UAL1 to UAL10. UAL1- Basic knowledge of the profession, UAL2- Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), UAL3- Ability to solve problems successfully, UAL4- Oral and written expression with clarity in Spanish, UAL5- Development of critical and self-critical sense, UAL6- Ability to work in groups, UAL7- Learning a foreign language, UAL8- Commitment to business ethics, UAL9- Ability to design, manage and undertake a task by oneself, and UAL10- Corporate social responsibility. The objective of this work is to establish the possible weaknesses of the existing transversal skills in the nursing degree program. By conducting a comprehensive analysis, this study aims to determine whether the competencies offered by the nursing program at the University of Almeria are aligned with the demands of the current labor market. To achieve this, the research will begin by identifying the core competencies required for success in the nursing profession. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations can be made to enhance or revise the existing transversal competencies offered by the nursing program. These recommendations may include curriculum modifications, incorporating additional practical experiences, or introducing specialized training to address specific weaknesses. In conclusion, this study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the transversal skills offered by the nursing program at the University of Almeria. By determining the alignment between these skills and the demands of the labor market, valuable insights can be gained to ensure that nursing students acquire the ideal skills necessary to meet the current needs of the healthcare industry.
