Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to evaluate effectiveness of the tutorial programme structure in the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, the improvement of student academic results and students perceptions about the tutorial programme.
The reason why the researcher conducted this study was because the researcher wanted to know from students personally if they see the need for a tutorial programme, enable them to suggest how the tutorial programme can be better and if it has been working for them.
The literature review drew heavily on secondary data. Data was collected from 500 students out of the population of 6700 students using simple random sampling. Quantitative method was used. Questionnaires with closed and open-ended questions were used to collect data.
According to the researcher’s findings, the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics should consider student opinions, provide bigger venues of them, place tutorial classes in practical classes because some students understand better when demonstrating and applying rather than talking, they should increase tutorial times for students to be able to prepare for their examinations, as the students said, it helps them remember better during a test or an examination.
Also it was recommended that the lecturer should clearly outline the role of the tutor because they are sometimes unsure of their roles, introduce the tutor to the students, let them tutor while the lecturer is in the lecture theatre in order to see if the tutor knows what he/she is doing otherwise they become shy in front of the students. Keywords:
