Abstract:
The main objective of this work is to understand the importance of the Ensemble Class – Orchestra discipline in the construction of an authentic school, promoting well-being, with a strong school culture and whose good environment contributes to school and academic success, and artistic success, of students in specialized music education.

An investigation was carried out, asking students from the Cascais Conservatory music school, at the Frei Gonçalo de Azevedo School, using anonymous questionnaires for this purpose.

Considering the importance of adapting the school institution of specialized music teaching to the current educational and social context, the Ensemble Class discipline is of particular importance due to the motivational potential it can generate in students, both through the performative interaction between all colleagues , as well as through the successes achieved through teamwork.

The adjective authenticizotic is a very recently formed word, coming from the English authentizotic, a word created by Kets de Vries from the Greek words authentikós, which means “primordial” or “authentic” and from zotikós, which means “vital”, “life-giving” or “pertaining to life”. This word is used to describe companies, organizations or professional climates that aim for a balance between the affective/psychological well-being and productivity of workers. This research aims to transpose this concept to the educational context.

Given the fact that registration and attendance at music courses is voluntary and that learning music is a vocational act, it is therefore imperative that the educational institution develops an authentic identity, seeking the success of students through the promotion of their well-being, good school environment, emotional resilience, sense of purpose, sense of identity, among others.

In this context, the present work proposed to investigate to what extent the decision of the School Management, to teach the Ensemble Class subject in the form of an Orchestra, could contribute to the construction of a school culture with predominantly authentic characteristics, and in what way, this environment could promote increased motivation, which extends to other music subjects, enhancing student success.

Based on the results obtained, a statistical analysis was carried out, with a view to assessing four fundamental dimensions for studying the impact of the Ensemble Class – Orchestra discipline on the educational environment in which it operates.

The conclusions were very favorable, with the establishment of positive correlations between all the variables under study. This proves that, effectively, the Ensemble Class – Orchestra discipline has a role to play in creating synergies that enhance success. Thus, it is a useful tool in building a school culture, marked by a feeling of identity and purpose.
