Modern competence education focuses on the development of key competencies and cross-cutting competencies required for human capability providing quality education at all levels of education which raises conceptually other requirements for teachers’ training. The prerequisite for the successful implementation of modern competence education is the teachers’ training and professional development opportunities in a conceptually new quality, which, as the main goal of the work, sees the development of each child's potential as an individual, cooperation with other colleagues who can plan and implement study work according to the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required in the 21st century and realize the core values of excellent school performance: cooperation, responsibility, development, reliability, security. The competency approach in teachers’ training programs requires the opportunity to acquire competences required in the labor market and potential workplaces providing changes in the organization of courses, content development, implementation of course programs and evaluation of relevant activities.

The aim of the research is to identify the basic principles of the development and implementation of the teachers’ professional development programs based on competence education.

For supporting the topicality of the problem the survey data of further education course participants are summarized over a longer period of time. For analysis of the research data the following methods are employed: descriptive statistics (questionnaire) and content analysis.
As the result of research there will be analyzed good practice examples in the work of adult education organizers at the level of universities lifelong learning. There will be developed recommendations for university organizers of adult vocational education and training.
