Abstract:
The purpose of our work was the formation of speech competencies through cooperative learning methods. The very problem of the development of speech competencies remains relevant, methodologists conduct research on the study of this topic, identify the absence of practical orientation and speech situation in foreign language classes, which causes the lack of speech skills among both secondary school and university students.
At each stage of the didactic process in a foreign language, students face certain difficulties. This article presents the results of a study showing how well students have formed language skills at a certain stage: listening, reading, writing and speaking. We have developed control and measuring materials that check how well the language skills of students are formed. The first-year students did not have enough speaking skills. The students were unable to speak English, express their thoughts freely, and could not perceive English speech by ear. In our opinion, the problem lies in the fact that not enough attention is paid to foreign language communication skills in English as a foreign language class. We believe that textbooks lack an emphasis on speaking, and at certain stages of learning it is necessary to introduce new methods of cooperative learning that form communication skills.
We tested with students a series of methods developed by S.Kagan, these are, for example: Rally Robin, Jigsaw, and Numbered Heads Together. The effectiveness of the use of cooperative methods in the process of teaching foreign languages is due to the fact that the educational process, based on the use of interactive teaching methods, is organized taking into account involvement of all students of the group in the learning process, without exception.
