Abstract:
Recent technological developments have profoundly transformed the educational field. Consequently, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have increasingly permeated the educational area in recent years, pursuing the constant increase of quality. The interest in artificial intelligence technologies is more and more visible in education, both in teaching and learning as well as in teachers' training. This paper aimed to explore how the scientific literature on artificial intelligence and education has evolved over time. Bibliometric analysis was used in order to accomplish the goals of the current study. This paper analyzed the scientific articles indexed on the Web of Science database between 2002 and 2022. The data indicate an increase in the number of scientific articles on education and artificial intelligence in the last 20 years. This research mapped the recent developments in AI and education by exploring the most occurring concepts and terms. The present paper's findings are relevant for a comprehensive understanding of the state of the art of research on artificial intelligence in education.
