Abstract:
With the advances in computing technology, digital twins have gained traction in various sectors such as automotive, healthcare, manufacturing and processing industries. The affordances provided by digital twins in the area of process improvement, training and workforce development, and education are far too great to be ignored. Digital twin is a simulation of the real-world scenario in a technology-mediated environment. For example, a simulation model that replicates a processing line or a manufacturing facility can be used to analyze inefficiencIes and identify areas of improvement. Or, a simulation of the working of an equipment can be used to train or re-train workforce minimizing risks and injury. A digital twin can also be employed in an educational setting to provides students with hands-on experiences of real-world scenarios such as a processing line, a heavy machinery, scientific phenomena such as atomic structures, human organs, and many more. This presentation will explore some of the tools that can be employed in education to train tomorrow's workforce in real-world scenarios using their digital counterparts. Keywords:
Digital twin, simulation, education.
