Abstract:
In higher education, especially in a field of engineering, it is inconceivable to teach quality experts without a practical part of the training. If this is not possible in a real industrial environment, then it is performed in suitably equipped laboratories. Therefore, the issue of quality assurance during the preparation and execution of laboratory exercises comes to fore.
In order to achieve accurate values with the provided measuring methods, students must use appropriate and reliable equipment. The condition of the equipment in the laboratory, the way of manipulation and maintenance has a significant influence on the quality of the exercises. Furthermore, during the performance of the exercises, it is necessary to pay attention to safety first. Exercises must be designed in the way that the risk of injury and putting students in danger is minimized, while the knowledge gained is maximized. The number of students in a group significantly affects this feature. When the exercises are performed in pairs, a maximum of ten students per group can attend per one teacher. If this number were higher, it would be difficult for the teacher to monitor the students' work, so the quality of the work would be reduced, and the possibility of mistakes and injuries would be greater.
As an example, this paper describes the laboratory exercises from the course Electrical drives for undergraduate electrical engineering students. The purpose of these exercises is the practical confirmation of theoretical knowledge and familiarization with work methods and measurement procedures so that students acquire the skills necessary for independent work in the engineering profession. The paper describes the procedures for preparing and performing exercises, with tasks to be completed by students and the teacher, as well as accompanying documentation that needs to be prepared before the exercises, created during the exercises and entered in the final reports after the exercises. Finally, for high-quality exercises in safe conditions and a positive result (the highest the level of students' skills), the active engagement and motivation of teachers and students is necessary. The quality of the exercises affects the goal itself: acquiring knowledge and training students for the further work. Keywords:
