FROM CLASSROOM TO INSTAGRAM: STUDENTS DISSEMINATE PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY CONTENT

Abstract:
Introduction:
In the current digital era, healthcare professionals are increasingly expected to communicate scientific and therapeutic information through social media platforms in a precise, rigorous, and accessible manner. To develop this emerging competency, pharmacy students were instructed to design Instagram-ready digital educational content on Pharmaceutical Technology topics.
Method:
This educational activity involved 156 students enrolled in the 4th year of the Pharmacy degree and the Double Degree in Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Valencia during the 2025-2026 academic year. Students formed groups of 4-6 and created a short educational material (“information pill”) on Pharmaceutical Technology topics in the form of a one-minute video or infographic tailored for Instagram. Submissions were uploaded to the virtual learning platform (Moodle). Class time was allocated to viewing and discussing the materials, followed by a collective selection of the best submission. An ad hoc anonymous questionnaire was managed through WOOCLAP to gather student feedback. The winning work, with authors' prior authorization, was published on the FarmTecTic (@farmtectic) Instagram creator account.
Results:
The digital task promoted active learning, collaboration and creativity, positioning students as health communicators rather than passive recipients of information. In total, 39 projects were prepared by the students. The competitive yet formative selection of a “winning” task, together with the possibility of publication in a public channel, increased students’ motivation and sense of professional responsibility regarding the quality, clarity and ethical standards of the content produced. Moreover, student perceptions were predominantly positive (3.9/5 for content reinforcement and 4.3/5 for recommendation in future courses), confirming the activity's effectiveness in developing digital competencies for scientific communication in pharmacy.
Conclusion:
Embedding student-generated Instagram content within Pharmaceutical Technology learning is a feasible and effective strategy to develop digital health communication skills aligned with real-world professional practice. This approach not only reinforces conceptual understanding but also prepares future pharmacists to engage in evidence-based public outreach through social media platforms such as FarmTecTic.Keywords:
