Abstract:
The project “Subtitling” proposes an educational transformation taking into consideration new learning spaces. It consists of a teaching tool - a web platform and social networking - to disseminate studies and scientific research conducted by exchange students from the School of Design, as well as the culture and customs of the countries and institutions where they have been received through exchange programs.
The benefits in experiencing other cultures, learning other languages and establishing international academic contacts were understood in Brasil, until recently, as a personal enterprise and the most common was the concerned party being sponsored by family that would be responsible for all the expenses.
This scenario has undergone a major change with the launch of the "Ciência sem Fronteiras" - CsF (“Science without Borders”) Program, a result of the joint effort of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC), through its respective funding agencies - CNPq and Capes -, and Departments of Higher Education and Technological Education - MEC.
The understanding by the government, that the consolidation and expansion of some areas considered as strategically important for the Brazilian competitiveness could be promoted through international mobility of our students, justified the implementation of the Program that, in the period between 2011-2015, aims to distribute "... up to 101 thousand scholarships over four years to promote exchanges, so that undergraduate and postgraduate do internship abroad in order to keep in touch with competitive educational systems in relation to technology and innovation. " For two years, 68 young people from the School of Design participated or have been participating in the program in countries like Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Finland, France, Hungary, England, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United States.
Considering the desired integration between teaching, research and extension, the challenge was to create a project to ensure that the experiment/experience of the students were not restricted to the individual and could be shared in a productive way with as many people as possible.
The project stimulates and promotes the exchange of experiments/experiences between the academic community of the School of Design and the students who are in educational institutions abroad, in order to keep contact with other educational systems, as well as become aware of their relations with design, technology and innovation. Moreover, it intends to attract the interest of new students for exchange programs, and create opportunities for achieving new knowledge for those who for some particular reason, cannot participate.
Based on the concepts of collective intelligence, knowledge in networking and cyberculture, and guided by the principles of interaction design, the project "Subtitling" proposed the creation and implementation of a web interface to allow exchange students to tell their stories and share their experiences with each other, with not only the academic community but the community in general as well, centralizing the information in an easily accessible space and so generating a database that could be used as a source of research for further studies related to the teaching, methodology and trends of design.Keywords:
