Abstract:
The paper explores the requirements regarding the development of curricular and extracurricular competences for engineers in Romania from the point of view of three groups: actual students, former students - graduates/alumni and employers of engineering graduates and/or students. Competences that are addressed by means of curricula will be separated from competences that need to be addressed extracurricular. For this purpose an online survey research with students and graduates completed by an interview research with employers is used to picture the landscape of the requirements and needs from the perspective of the 3 mentioned groups: students, graduates and employers. Starting from these results the paper separates curricular from extracurricular competences within a case study of the Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages in chosen bachelor and master programs, where engineering programs are taught in either English, French or German. Finally the paper presents a concept of a serious game solution meant to motivate and support the students into acquiring competences which are not currently covered by curricular means.
