Abstract:
Today, in the age of high technologies, the question of the influence of the media on the development of the language is of particular importance. The media play an important role in shaping the information picture of the world, have a significant impact on the state of the socio-cultural environment, determine the linguistic, socio-psychological, and cultural situation in society. Many states have regional or minority languages that are the languages of indigenous national minorities. The number of speakers of such regional or minority languages varies widely - from several hundred to several million, and no less differences can be traced in the legislation and practice of certain states in relation to these languages. Currently, in many large countries there are processes of language change, in which the "state" language is replacing minority languages. Many people stop using the language of the “ancestors” and switch to the language of the “majority”. With the disappearance of the minority language, most of the traditional knowledge about the physical and spiritual world disappears, as well as the unique vision of the world, which is transmitted to all representatives of the small linguistic community using this language. Under the influence of global culture, the media are changing, which leads to an increase in the role of international information corporations and contributes to the creation of a global media market. The result of these processes is a decrease in the scale of regional media and, accordingly, the level of functioning of regional languages. The paper presents the diachronic analysis of the development of the mass media in regional languages - types, periods, role and cultural significance. The research tackles the problem of supporting mass media in regional languages in the context of globalization by means of inclusing them into cyberspace. As a result the paper presents the recommendations for efficient development of the minor languages through mass media and the conditions required for preserving and supporting regional languages in media space.
