Abstract:
The relevant and beneficial implementation of electronic academic records management at higher institutions of learning in Uganda is considered to be a key ingredient for facilitating operational efficiency and effectiveness. Given the sensitive nature of academic records, a higher education institution needs to pay special attention to the security imperatives underpinning electronic records management. The key issues considered in this paper covering a wide range of security requirements are categorised under records management policies and regulations, access control, business continuity, transaction monitoring and fraud detection, end-user security awareness and training, configuration management and systems maintenance, and incident response. This paper analyses the key security requirements for an academic records management system at Ndejje University, a private higher education institution running at three campuses at different geographical locations in Uganda.
