Abstract:
The report covers the motivational and demotivational factors in learning English as a second language. The authors distinguish the main motives that affect students ' interest in the English language. The same factors are considered as motivational for some people and demotivational for others. The article presents the results of the study, held among students of the Institute of physics of Kazan Federal University. The conducted survey allowed to include that is the leading motive of studying a foreign language by students-physicists of one of the leading Russian universities. Conversely, what students pay the least attention to in the process of learning English. As motivating factors were identified: self-esteem, the personality of the teacher, the influence of parents and friends, a sense of satisfaction from learning, the ability to work in a team and others. Demotivational factors also were named: fear of the interlocutor, unwillingness to make mistakes, psychological barrier, lack of choice, etc.
