Abstract:
The class of 2009 has fewer job opportunities than any previous class in the last few years. There are some jobs in limited areas; but the majority of graduates are unemployed. The medical field is one area in which unfilled jobs is high. According to the April 2009 issue of Essence Magazine, there will be 587,000 Registered Nurses jobs available by the year 2016 with a median salary of $57,230. The Hispanic population continues to grow rapidly in many states and there is a high unemployment rate.
Some of the unemployed college graduates and unemployed Hispanics can receive an education in Medical Spanish in an effort to obtain a job. Basic Spanish grammar and pronunciation will be reviewed during the first few classes. A curriculum has been developed that covers the information a Hispanic patient will give to the receptionist and those working in the Emergency Room. Procedures for examining patients will be given as well as specialized vocabulary for pregnancy, HIV, cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease and alcoholism will be included in the course.
This course will increase the employment rate in an area that has a great need for the services offered . The need for this course is needed as soon as possible.
