One of the features of scientific researches is to understand science as an integrated set of several subjects, without excluding any possible way to find the solution to a problem and integrating all of them to ease the use of the tools that subjects provide us in order to reach the knowledge. In this way, the teaching of scientific subjects should transform the learning process into an easy way, in which all scientific process and needed attitudes will be included to obtain the maximum performance.
In the baccalaureate subjects, it is developed a specialization of some subjects that, during the ESO and elementary time, have been worked together. Selectivity exam’s pressure, combined with the lack of time to teach the syllabus suggested by the baccalaureate curriculum, make that activities to deepen in taught concepts or offer to the student a global vision of the subject will be a very difficult issue. However, not all the subjects that are taught during this period will be in the selectivity-s exam. This is the case of optative subjects that students can choose when they are studying at baccalaureate.
So, interdisciplinary projects play an important role in the academic development of the student. The conduct of activities related to real world and the encouragement of the participation and the development of practices that will need only a few resources, are very beneficial for helping to better understand of the subjects, following the pedagogic line of the educational centre, and holding the student responsible of the needs of the collaborative works to achieve the initial aims. All these points, combined with a correct presentation and a continuous monitoring of the student during the trimester, will be under evaluation, beyond the content.
In this work, it is proposed a methodology based on experiences performed with students from the first course of baccalaureate of the educational centre of Salesianos of Carabanchel, in which the contents of industrial technology and I.C.T. subjects are intertwined. By means of a project based on Arduino platform, both subjects have been worked at the same time, joining a programming part and the study of physical properties of the materials, obtaining this way, high satisfaction levels from the students and great performance at knowledge acquisition.
For that purpose, some themes of Industrial Technology subject, from the first academic course of baccalaureate, are selected. This subject is focused, among other topics, in material properties and automatic control. On the other hand, using tools for quantitative treatment of the information which are based on the Arduino platform and are studied and used, with the help of the teacher, by the I.C.T. subject students, it has been implemented a system that is able to measure the humidity content in several terrain types. After the understanding of the devices and performing a correct calibration of them, the students were able to design a device that will determine, in real time, humidity percentages of agricultural fields in order to take decisions on the need to activate, or not, an auxiliary irrigation system. This activity has increased the satisfaction degree of the students in both subjects, encouraging the research and solving real life problems by means of teamwork, and with the help of the teacher as a learning guide.
