Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to assess the effectivity of the autonomous and self-regulated learning in preparing and passing the math course for first-year Business Degree students at the University of Barcelona.
We have worked with a sample of 400 students who filled out an ad-hoc questionnaire at the end of the first semester of the academic course 2011-2012. We have studied the perception of their math skills before the start of the course, the planning of the hours to dedicate, the resources used to follow the course and the self-assessment of their personal strategy in accordance with the demands to achieve new knowledge of math.
Following the self-regulated process we have evaluated what corrective measures should be applied by the students when they failed to achieve their targets.
Finally, we describe the main conclusions of the study that have helped us as teachers to improve our monitoring of the learning process.
