University of Oviedo (SPAIN)
It is expected that the implementation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) improves the academic performance of students as it promotes active learning- based on a learning process focused on student-teacher-content interaction- continuous assessment based on constant student work and the wider adoption of new technologies in teaching education, among others.

Although this learning and teaching environment can promote student academic success, other factors can certainly also affect student performance. Some of these factors include personal and demographic characteristics of the student, attitude and effort of the student (continuous assessment, use of teaching and learning tools available online virtual campus, etc. .), grades awarded in basic scientific courses, learning and teaching strategies, general satisfaction on university studies, assistance to face classes, etc.

The purpose of this work is to analyse the impact of different personal, socioeconomic and academic factors on students´ performance at university.

The study focuses on undergraduate students of the second year of Business Administration and Management degree in the University of Oviedo. We design a survey in order to obtain students´personal, socioeconomic and academic factors which are later crossed with their obtained marks by using multivariate techniques.

The results are useful to define key elements that help to improve students’ performance which involve personal and social characteristics of our students but also the most appropriate teaching resources to promote academic success.
