Here we present a new method of assessment tested at the University of Alicante, in the first year of Computer Science degree for the particular subject “Basic Computer Science”.
In this method the students are involved in the process of assessment of their own works by means of crossed reviews that aim to identify the lacks or mistakes in the schoolmates works. The suggested improvements will be performed and assessed by the students themselves in successive deliveries.
The assessment process begins in the lecture hall, when the teacher provides the students the explanations they need to initialize the different tasks. From here, students have to work at home for make proposed works, and upload them to web platform. A software designed by teaching staff manages all documents and send necessary one for each student, step by step.
With this kind of methods, we get an increment of approved students, because they get a bigger level of compromise with subject.
Moreover, students involved in their assessment process, take knowledge more quickly than with another way, and it's an important step for understand futures lessons. They have to update their knowledge every day and so they are more able to understand the new concepts explained by the lecturer.
The increase of student capabilities has been observed in the theoretical classes as well as in the practical classes.
