Abstract:
The implementation of the K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education System in the Philippines causes a myriad of reactions among the primary stakeholders of the basic education sector. Now that the K to 12 system is fully implemented, the need to know implementation issues and operational readiness among the Senior High Schools will help improve execution of the program in the coming years. This study aims to explore the experiences among the principals, teachers, and students in the schools that offered Senior High School program in the Province of Negros Oriental and identify and assesed the level of indicators encountered during the implementation. This study made use of the descriptive-evaluative method of research utilizing the researcher-made questionnaire to determine and describe the characteristics of variables as they exist in the natural setting. Using stratified random sampling and purposive sampling technique, three separate sets of structured questionnaires consisting of close-ended and open-ended questions that were pre-tested for understandability and workability were used. The study was able to identify the top and least indicators during the Senior High School implementation. The principal-respondents from the private and public schools have different views on the level of implementation of the K-12 Program in terms of planning process, setting-up process, and on the problems they encountered. The teacher-respondents from the private and public schools differ significantly in their assessment of the principal's performances in the implementation and on the problems they encountered during the implementation. The student-respondents vary significantly on their problems encountered in the implementation of K to 12 Program. In general, the implementation of the K to 12 Program varies considerably between the private and public schools. Although there are commonalities in the overall responses of the principal-respondents, teacher-respondents, and student-respondents from the private and public schools, the differences are more prevalent in all aspects of the study.
