Abstract:
Digital literacy is one of the key competences for learning throughout life and corresponds to one of the lines of action of the Europe 2020 strategy. That's why it has been the subject of concern and reflection in recent years. This study aims to present the results of an exploratory study in schools of northern Portugal. For data collection we used the literature review, document analysis and a questionnaire survey. These results point to a widespread use of digital media by teachers in their teaching activity, particularly in terms of motivation for learning and communication with students, however there is a lack of knowledge about the scope of digital literacy in terms of "awareness, attitude and ability of individuals to appropriately use digital tools and facilities to identify, access, manage, integrate, evaluate, analyse and synthesize digital resources, construct new knowledge, create media expressions, and communicate with others"(Martin, 2005). In the end, we make recommendations about pedagogical use of digital media to increase digital literacy.
