Abstract:
As every component related to education seems to be evolving, from communication media to available resources, from learning spaces to assessment methodologies, and from didactic teacher-centred pedagogy to a reflexive student-centred one, do we need to rethink the role of the educator? In this paper we investigate the issue around the role of the educator in an ever-increasing technologically-enhanced education system in attempt to answer the following research questions? Is the role of the educator evolving too? Is it time to move away from the traditional role of the classroom educator? What is the exact role of the educator in this newly-defined education system? We argue that the classroom educator has no single role but multi-dimensional aspects that are all essential within any kind of classroom. The teacher is just one role of the educator and the combination of all the roles that make up the encompassing role of the educator is technological independent and pedagogically neutral.
