Abstract:
Being aware of cultural differences is an important factor for successful intercultural communication, and essential to developing global citizenship skills. Global citizenship can be understood as an initiative based on the understanding of regional, local, and global issues, respecting and embracing diversity, becoming increasingly aware of others while collaborating among different cultures. In recent years, Global Citizenship has been connected with the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations. UPAEP, a private university in Puebla, Mexico with an ambitious internationalization strategy has been increasing the flow of international students in its online programs. Developing a globally competent faculty is essential to develop global citizenship skills in local and international students. A study was conducted to determine the level of global competitiveness of its faculty and staff using the GCAA (Global Competence Aptitude Assessment). The results of the assessments are analyzed, and a list of best practices and areas of improvement are presented as part of a strategy to promote global citizenship among the students.
