Abstract:
Various learning strategies that have been suggested by researchers aimed to increase students' mathematics achievement. Concept attainment is one of the learning strategies that applied the concept of inquiry process indirectly when learning. Students were needed to understand a given concept by using compare and contrast activities. Through this learning strategy, the students learned by differentiating between examples that contain the concept attributes and examples that do not contain the concept attributes. In order to test the effectiveness of the learning strategy to increase students’ achievement in mathematics, two groups of 20 students each were chosen to learn a topic of algebraic fraction using the learning strategy. A multimedia application was developed to carry out the learning activities in a computer lab. The result shows that the experimental group scored statistically significant higher learning achievement than the control group. The result from this study can be an added value to the education field.
