Abstract:
The importance of education presents both a daunting and an exciting thought for people in developing countries, particularly Africa. It is daunting due to the limited educational infrastructures, lack of qualified teachers, health and poverty. These conditions make the learning environment difficult and intolerable for both learners and educators. The excitement is brought by the expected end results that education will bring to our continent in the relief of poverty and improving the wellbeing of our societies. Various Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) interventions are being introduced to improve the state of education. The mobile phone is one of the ICTs that is expected to reach even the remote areas of the developing world. What is missing however, is the measurement tools to evaluate the efficiency of these ICTs. The aim of this paper is to propose a matrix that can be used to measure the impact of ICTs in education in South Africa. The paper will use the literature review approach in gathering data. The conceptual matrix will therefore be proposed guided by the literature review findings. Keywords:
Educator, learner, ICTs, matrix, impact.
