Abstract:
In recent years, especially under COVID-19, Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the educational environment has been accelerating and gaining momentum. In Japan, according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), data science education is now required as a common subject not only for engineering students but also for students in the humanities and social sciences. On the other hand, the necessity of globalization of education has been reaffirmed. In particular, the rapid development of telecommunications over the past several years has increased opportunities for contact with other countries, and there is a growing demand for familiarity with foreign languages, especially English. In a specific field such as ICT, there are many technical terms that are not commonly used in everyday conversation, making smooth communication even more difficult.
In this paper, we propose a new learning method in which students read and understand English texts, solve problems, and give presentations in English, using the English version of the ICT national certification derived from Japan as the teaching material for learning ICT. The materials are designed to cover basic ICT knowledge by adopting Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination (FE), which is equivalent to the level 2 of the Information Technology Engineers Examination (ITEE). Since the English version of the exam is preceded by the Japanese version, students can search the Web for the same kind of questions in Japanese to solve any problems they may encounter. Most of the students who were subjected to this method belonged to the Faculty of Business Administration, and most of them had limited knowledge of the ICT field, but they were all able to research the questions and work on the presentation with great enthusiasm. Finally, we summarize the results of our university's implementation of the method and discuss the effectiveness of the method. Keywords:
