Abstract:

Nowadays, lifelong learning is becoming more important, than even before. Education can be considered as a humanistic concept designed to develop citizens´ knowledge and skills. From one point of view, the main aim of the educational concept is updating the knowledge and skills of the population and motivating them to be employable in the labour market. This happens due to the automation and digitization as a result of the digital transformation of society. The digital technologies rapidly changing demands on the skills of graduates and employees. At the same time, current institutions are looking for an effective way to motivate citizens to expand their knowledge in the long term. The contribution is focused on learning platforms, especially massive open online courses available to the unlimited number of participants. It describes the advantages, disadvantages of the courses and requirements from the Slovak citizen´s perspective. The article also includes results of survey research aimed to the content of enrolled courses and the using platforms by Slovak citizens.
