Abstract:
The planning of a subject is the process by which the agenda, contents and other components required for its offer are defined during an academic semester. In the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) there are service subjects that are offered in the basic cycles of several careers, in consequence, they have a large number of students associated with several professors in a large number of groups, for example, Physics 1 and Calculus 1. This situation requires some coordination activities of the professors’ group who are in charge of these subjects, and in accordance with this need, management activities are being carried out that favor the academic and administrative processes to improve academic performance in the constant search of academic excellence.

These management activities are being developed around two main problems in the planning of a subject where several teachers intervene: first, the progress in the content as the semester passes, and second, the availability of training resources that can be shared and used by all the students and teachers. To approach these problems, work agendas and a Modular Content Manager (MCM) have been proposed, tools that allow all the actors of the training process in subjects with several teachers to participate in a homogeneous process with minimum quality conditions for all.

In this context, the present work describes the structure and functioning of the MCM, as the tool for the contents organization by the ExperTIC project of the Academic Vice-rectory of the UIS, since it allows defining the agendas of the courses, consolidating didactic resources, develop evaluation instruments and coordinate the collaborative work between professors from different headquarters.

Finally, this paper reports the results of the design, implementation and evaluation of the MCM at the UIS, the creation of nine (9) subjects of the Basic Sciences Cycle of Engineering defined by the Institutional agreements: Academic Council No. 105 of 2004 and No. 034 of 2005, together with some figures that describe the positive scope of this tool when implementing it in the aforementioned subjects.
