Abstract:
In the current geopolitical situation, in an era of continuous threats and military conflicts, terrorist acts, immigrant crisis in Europe, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is becoming increasingly important to prepare to protect society in this regard. Protection that will be implemented appropriately competent personnel. The rapid development of information and communication technologies and popularization of electronic services put on one of the first places the security of information, security of information resources of the state, companies and institutions, the security of cyberspace. No less important is also energy security, environmental security or economic safety.

Security issues in the current geopolitical situation in Europe is now so important that included in the plan to strengthen national security developed by the Polish Council of Ministers in the form of the task addressed to universities - to support the development of courses related to (directly and indirectly) the state security.

More than one hundred Polish universities at the request of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Polish adapted its teaching offer to the needs of national security through the creation of new or modification of existing teaching programmes. The Lublin University of Technology, as one of the biggest technical universities of Eastern Poland expands the educational offer of a new engineering direction in the area of safety: Engineering of Internal Security Systems (EISS).

EISS studies are a response to the demand in the area of education for security professionals working on eastern Polish and EU border (border guards, military units, fire, and police). Strengthening the EU's borders includes gathering a large number of people employed in the security services, whose knowledge and skills to a large extent will depend on the level of education in the area of internal security, energy, the information and environment security. Educational needs of technical profile, the EISS studies concern not only new but also existing security personnel, for which the ability to overcome today's security threats are becoming indispensable in daily work.

The article presents the educational needs of the region of the EU eastern border in the field of systems engineering of internal security and the concept of a new EISS curriculum as well as the way of its implementation in the Lublin University of Technology.
