Abstract:
Employers who employ graduates bear high costs of vocational training to perform duties. As a consequence they prefer to hire experienced workers, not just graduated. Young, inexperienced workers are also fired primarily, if staff reduction is necessary. Hence, in the whole of the European Union (EU) the unemployment rate in the group of educated young people is much higher than the average. The unemployment rate among young people exceeds 50% in some EU countries.

A Higher Education (HE) response to this negative phenomenon is the professionalization of education. It means increasing participation of activities related to real practice in education process. A graduate of such studies will come to the market with some vocational experience. There are many methods of professionalization of education.

The paper presents the main result of the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility project titled “Professionalization of bachelor’s degree studies in computer science in Lublin University of Technology”. It is the road map of HE professionalization, which is a kind of a guide for HE institutions, how to increase participation the practice in HE. Areas and potential university’s activities in the field of HE professionalization, results of the best practices analyze and the road map are thoroughly presented in this paper.
