Abstract:
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into educational contexts presents significant opportunities to improve learning experiences, particularly in foreign language seminars at life sciences universities. This study examines the pedagogical implications and application of AI-driven tools in foreign language education, with a particular emphasis on students in the field of landscape design. Speech recognition is employed by AI-based platforms, such as language learning applications, to provide real-time pronunciation feedback. The conversational practice is simulated by chatbots, thus enabling students to participate in interactive dialogues that are useful to landscape architecture contexts. For example, students may articulate landscape plans or engage in discussions regarding ecological factors in English. Automated essay scoring systems provide immediate, comprehensive feedback on writing assignments, with an emphasis on the articulation of design concepts, technical vocabulary, and grammar.

A mixed-methods approach was implemented, which involved the integration of quantitative data from student performance metrics and qualitative feedback from surveys and interviews with students. The findings indicate that AI tools have a substantial impact on student engagement, language proficiency, and retention, all of which are critical for future professions. AI facilitates a more dynamic classroom environment from a pedagogical perspective, allowing instructors to personalise lessons and offer targeted support based on the unique requirements of each group of students.

The study also points out the challenges associated with AI implementation, including the necessity for comprehensive teacher training in AI technologies and data privacy concerns. Continuous evaluation of the impact of AI applications on learning outcomes, ongoing professional development for educators, and the careful selection of AI tools that are aligned with pedagogical objectives are all recommended as best practices in AI-enhanced language education. Future research directions are recommended to investigate the long-term effects of AI on language acquisition and its potential in other academic disciplines within life sciences education.
