USING ACTIVATING TEACHING METHODS FOR IMPROVING STUDENT MOTIVATION

Abstract:
Methods for activating students are about getting students more involved in their learning process, which otherwise can be perceived as passive from the student point of view. The paper deals with the analysis of the current state of the use of activating teaching methods, which was elaborated based on a questionnaire survey of the employees of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Žilina, Slovakia. In the second part, they have mentioned specifically suggestions for using selected modern methods in the subject of Strategic Management and Marketing. There is the proposal of using: staging method in self-analysis of an entrepreneur, multi-genre project within the framework of financial plan creation, Think - pair - share in the description of a product or service, problem tree and goal tree within the competition specification, mind map in the creation of marketing mix, brainstorming in a promotion strategy, Snowball in the context of the establishment of the organizational structure, Mapping the causes of the negative impact of production on the environment and Jigsaw and buzzing group within the repetition of the subject matter. The first benefit of this study is the possibility of using a questionnaire survey at the Department of Industrial Engineering to improve the process of education and possible consideration to incorporate new activating methods. The second benefit is to use the design of activating teaching methods to increase student motivation and increase the efficiency of the educational process. The use of activating methods increases the activity of a students' motivation, promote student autonomy and creativity and bring change from traditional to innovative teaching.​
