Abstract:
The work of a member of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic is physically and mentally demanding, which often entails ethical communication problems. A firefighter and his colleagues work as a family, they shares joys and problems. This working relationship enhances work commitment and the ability to perform. During and outside of an intervention, discussions and problematic issues arise during communication that may culminate in a misunderstanding of the other's point of view or attitude. These include communication regarding issues such as ethnic minorities, religion, political views and the distinction between right and wrong. These and other issues place great demands on understanding and accepting the other even with differing views and attitudes. If communication is poorly understood and established, this can have fatal consequences even when working in a team. The aim of this paper is to present the problematic areas of ethical communication in firefighter and recommendations aimed at setting up better education in firefighting. During the research, the directions of education of fire rescue officers have been identified, which can be divided into three directions (education of future officers in schools, education of new officers on the job and lifelong learning), where we can include ethical communication. Another factor is the search for the right approaches to teach ethical communication to firefighters. It is necessary to look for new directions using artificial intelligence, virtual reality or augmented reality.
