Abstract:
The success of online learning environments depends on various factors that contribute to effective teaching and learning experiences. This literature review examines the determinants of success in online learning, including pedagogical approaches, learner characteristics, interaction and engagement, technological infrastructure, assessment and feedback mechanisms, and support mechanisms. The review highlights the importance of effective assessment, learner motivation, reliable technological infrastructure, and meaningful interaction in promoting successful online learning. Key findings suggest that learner-centered pedagogy, consideration of individual learner characteristics, fostering interaction and engagement, providing reliable technological infrastructure, and implementing effective assessment and feedback practices are critical for optimizing online learning outcomes. The review identifies gaps in the literature and suggests future research directions, such as exploring the long-term impact of online learning, addressing equity and access issues, and investigating emerging technologies in online education. Understanding the factors determining the success of online learning environments is essential for educators and institutions to design and implement effective online learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners.
