Abstract:
The modern teaching process is based on the stages of the teaching unit. Each individual stage has its own rules that must be respected. Assessment of students’ achievements, as one of the stage of the teaching unit, represents a very important element of the modern teaching process. The paper presents the theoretical background of the concept of assessment, which is explained in the context of assessment components (monitoring, checking and evaluation), types of assessment (internal and external; formative and summative, diagnostic) and assessment approaches (assessment for learning; assessment as learning and assessment of what has been learned) in Croatian education system. For the purpose of assessment of students’ achievements, it is also possible to use digital tools (such as Socrative, Kahoot! and Mentimeter) which, through the gamification of the teaching process, enable the realization of various assessment purposes. The paper presents the results of a survey of the attitudes of high school computer science teachers (N=38) about the use of digital tools for assessment students’ achievements and the frequency of their use.
