Abstract:
Objective:
The main objective of this study was to evaluate whether the student-centred learning (SCL) approach allows the interconnection of the Molecular Biology subject with other non-academic competencies. In this context, the present teaching innovation project aimed to design and implement different learning activities based on non-traditional resources. This approach sought to encourage the development of critical thinking and other soft skills in medical students through non-theoretical learning activities.

Methodology:
The methodology employed was a SCL approach using the institutional learning platform (PRADO). Students of Medicine Degree at University of Granada (academic year 2024-2025) progressed through films, series of videos, scientific articles, and news items related to Molecular Biology, as well as materials addressing non-academic aspects, with the aim of increasing the applicability of the subject to everyday life and real clinical situations. Students’ perceptions were collected through an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 7 multiple-choice questions.

Results:
A total of 67 students enrolled in the Molecular Biology subject of the Medicine degree completed the anonymous questionnaire. The results indicated a positive perception of the proposed methodology, with most students reporting increased motivation and improved understanding of the subject, as well as a greater ability to relate Molecular Biology concepts to real-world and clinical contexts.

Conclusion:
The use of a SCL approach can be considered an effective methodology in the Medicine Degree program, as it enhances student motivation and facilitates the understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of Molecular Biology. In addition, SCL promotes the acquisition of soft skills, including empathy, collaboration, diplomacy, or adaptability, crucial for personal, professional, and social development.
