Abstract:
The aim of this study is to reveal the problems encountered and outcomes of using traditional children's plays in social studies courses. In this case study, participants were consisted of 20 teacher candidates studying in the field of social studies teaching. As data collection instruments; a form consisting of 8 open-ended questions prepared by the researcher and ‘Children's Plays Adapted Course Plan’ designed for each course by teacher candidates were used. The qualitative data collected were analyzed by using descriptive and content analysis method. As a result of the research; it was revealed that by using children’s play, social studies courses became more fun, and plays helped to learn topics in a permanent and meaningful way. Additionally; it was concluded that adapted plays supported students’ social-emotional development, and that increase the pre-service teachers’ beliefs and self-confidence that they can teach social studies courses more effectively.
