Abstract:
We develop a general model that it is able to deal with uncertain information that can be assessed with interval numbers. Thus, we are able to consider the more optimistic and pessimistic results that may happen in an uncertain problem. Moreover, sometimes we are also able to consider the most possible results of the problem. The model we present uses the weighted average (WA) and the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operator in the formulation. It also uses generalized means in order to consider a more robust formulation that includes a wide range of particular cases. We introduce the uncertain generalized ordered weighted averaging (UGOWAWA) operator. Its main advantage is that it is able to unify the WA and the OWA in the same formulation considering the degree of importance that each concept has in the formulation. Therefore, we are able to assess the attitudinal character and the subjective probability of the decision maker in the same problem. The applicability of this new approach is very broad because it can be applied in a lot of problems such as in statistics, decision making, economics and engineering. In this paper, we focus in a decision making problem about educational management. We develop a procedure for selecting the most appropriate project in teaching innovation. We see that the results may be different depending on the particular type of UGOWAWA operator used.
