Abstract:
Practices with real systems plays a significant role in engineering education. The lack of real laboratories and the number of students in many disciplines have advanced an evolution from face-to-face to combined face-to-face and offline teaching (blended learning). Thus, it is necessary to apply teaching methods for maintaining the teaching quality in these areas. In this sense, a simulation environment laboratory is proposed to emulate a level control system plant from the laboratories of the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Ferrol at the University of A Coruña. To perform this emulation, a system identification is performed by means of identification methods applied with Matlab. In addition, the obtained transfer functions are implemented in a Python file and executed cyclically on a Raspberry-Pi through a Node-RED software application. Moreover, Node-RED is also proposed to graphically represent and visualize the status of the level plant. The results obtained allow engineering students to benefit from this simulation environment and apply control engineering concepts using low-cost hardware with the same dynamic behavior as the real plant
