Abstract:
Effective oral communication is one of the professional competencies that is most valued by employers. However, stage fright and anxiety often prevent students from clearly developing their ideas and presenting their proposals accurately. In the marketing and communication area, it is vital that professionals know how to speak in public, maintain the attention of the audience, make appropriate use of the space, and control their body language and the resources available when they present in front of potential customers. This work shows the results of a learning activity in which video recording and peer reviewing were used to enhance students public speaking skills. The students were enrolled in the Marketing Degree and the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising Degree programs from Universidad Tecnológica Centroamerica in Honduras and came from four different countries: Honduras, Panama, Mexico and Guatemala. The results of the learning activity suggest that the application of this methodology allows students to improve the way they introduce their presentations, maintain public attention and reduce the use of ambiguous vocabulary.
