Abstract:
This study attempts to develop and validate a Learning and Facilitation Module (Pengajaran dan Pemudahcaraan - PdPc) through the integration of the PBL approach using the McMaster model (Barrows & Tamblyn, 1980) in the Real Estate Valuation and Management Bachelor degree programme at Malaysian universities. Many studies about PBL have looked into its implementation and effectiveness; however, there has been no study on the development of a module for the integration of PBL application in property management programmes. There are 5 research questions which are related to the theoretical basis of module development and the validity and reliability values of the sub-constructs and the overall content of the module. This descriptive study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the PBL Real Estate Valuation and Management programme module (PdPc). The expected study outcomes are the development of the PBL PdPc module as a practical guide and a comprehensive framework for Real Estate Valuation to improve the diversity of the students' abilities. This study aims to provide qualitative and quantitative evidence of the effectiveness of the PBL approach in the development and construction of the PdPc module to stimulate the students’ interest and soft skills and, in turn, to produce human capital in the field of Real Estate Valuation and Management who are capable of thinking at the highest level. Specifically, this study aims to develop and encourage the intellectual growth and thinking skills of Malaysian students. The expected outcome would be the latest and the most innovative module in Malaysia and it would be utilised by various training and education institutes as well as agencies and individuals in the field of Property Assessment and Management. It is hoped that future students would have the required advantage to meet the demands of the nation and the employers to become reputable members of accounting organisations, accountants or entrepreneurs and competent educators who are able to improve the quality of service. This study would be beneficial to the Malaysian Ministry of Education, higher institutions of learning, Ministry of Finance through National Institute of Valuation, (INSPEN) as well as real estate valuation and management firms and organisations.
